How to Fix a Disk Defragmenter

Disk Defragmenter is a Windows program that helps speed up a PC by rearranging files on the hard drive. Sometimes, for various reasons, the program won't properly operate. When this occurs, there is an easy method of checking your system.

Instructions

1. Click on "Start" in Windows. Then, select "Run..." on the right of the menu.

2. Type "cmd" in the dialog box.

3. Once CMD opens, type in "c: chkdsk /f" in the prompt. It will ask if you want this volume to be checked when you restart. Type "y" as the response.

4. Restart your computer. When it loads it will come to a screen that will check the disk. Check the disk for any errors in the system. If errors are found, they will automatically be fixed.

5. Load Windows after the disk has been checked and open Disk Defragmenter. It should now be working properly.
