Disk Defragmenter is a Windows program that helps speed up a PC by rearranging files on the hard drive. Sometimes, for various reasons, the program won't properly operate. When this occurs, there is an easy method of checking your system.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Click on "Start" in Windows. Then, select "Run..." on the right of the menu.

  2. Step 2

Type "cmd" in the dialog box.

  3. Step 3

Once CMD opens, type in "c: chkdsk /f" in the prompt. It will ask if you want this volume to be checked when you restart. Type "y" as the response.

  4. Step 4

Restart your computer. When it loads it will come to a screen that will check the disk. Check the disk for any errors in the system. If errors are found, they will automatically be fixed.

  5. Step 5

Load Windows after the disk has been checked and open Disk Defragmenter. It should now be working properly.
