How to Make a Basketball Goal

Good shooters spend hours in the gym practicing their shot and perfecting their technique. Since scoring is the ultimate goal in the game of basketball, learning how to shoot the ball properly to make a basket, or a goal, will make you a valuable player. Many players and coaches like to follow the mnemonic device BEEF (balance, elbow, eyes, follow through) to focus on important aspects of a shot.

Instructions

    • 1

Achieve balance by spreading your feet about shoulder-width apart while keeping your knees bent. Many call this the "triple threat" position, as you can dribble, pass and shoot from this stance.

    • 2

Position your elbow directly under the ball, which should be placed in the fingertips of your dominant hand.

    • 3

Focus your eyes on the front of the basketball hoop's rim, and picture your shot arcing through the air and into the net just beyond the front of the rim.

    • 4

Follow through. Keep your off hand on the side of the ball, but only use it for guidance. With the ball on your fingertips, push the ball up and flick your wrist once your arm is extended to release the basketball toward the rim.

    • 5

Practice as mush as possible. Players of all ages and skill level need constant repetition to perfect their stance, form, concentration and release from different areas on the basketball court.
