Step 1
Wing bone identification.Remove an entire wing from a wild turkey. Using a knife to cut and scrape, remove all three bones from the turkey's wing. Continue until the humerus, radius and ulna are as clean as possible.
-
Step 2
Cut off both ends on each of the bones. Your cuts need to expose the marrow inside each of the bones. Boil the bones in water so that the marrow will be easier to extract. If desired, some dish-washing detergent and bleach can be added to the water to help soften the marrow and to keep the bones white.
-
Step 3
Use a small-diameter stiff piece of wire or something similar to remove the marrow from inside the bones. Keep working until all marrow has been removed. The bones should resemble hollow tubes when you are completed.
-
Step 4
The finished wing bone callConstruct the call by inserting the radius into the ulna and the ulna into the humerus. Twist each one of the bones until you have a tight, comfortable grip. The bones should fit tightly inside one another, with no air leaks. Lightly sand the bones if needed to achieve a snug fit.
-
Step 5
Disassemble the call when you are satisfied with the fit and finish of the bones. Mix up the epoxy, and applying a small amount to each joint, reassemble the call. Do not to use too much and obstruct the airway. Use a rag to remove any excess from the bone's surface, and let the epoxy cure.
-
Step 6
Put the radius end of the call into your mouth and suck. Pretend you are trying to suck air through a straw. With practice, you will soon be yelping like a turkey.
