How to Install Wall Mount Speakers
Wall mount speakers have the advantage of not taking up actual space in the room. If you're making a home theater, these speakers can create that theater surround sound. They can also be used as part of a PA system for an office or school. Since you need to cut holes in the walls for these speakers, installing them isn't an easy task. You need to make sure there is nothing inside the wall (like support beams) before cutting it open. Then you must figure out how the wires go through, especially if your audio source is from another room. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Choose the location in the wall for the speakers. Find out where the wall studs (the support boards within the wall) are located by tapping across the wall and listening for a dull reverberation sound. Drill a hole in the wall where you know there is no stud and insert a wire in the hole to feel around where the studs are.

2
Cut a hole in the wall the exact size for the speaker. Draw the outline on the wall with a marker, pencil or chalk, using the speaker edges as a guide. Drill a half-inch hole in each corner of the outline and cut out the outline with a key saw.

Determine how you're going to route the speaker wires through the wall. If the audio source/amplifier is in the same room (as with a home theater), you can just drill a hole near the floor and run the wire along the floor edge and up through the wall. If the source is from another room, you need snake the wire in from the other room (Step 4).

4
Drill a hole in the wall near the floor in the other room. If you want to run the wire through the basement below, drill the hole in the floorboard within the wall, inserting the drill down through the speaker hole you cut. Run the wire through the hole from the other room with an assistant pulling it in from the speaker's room.

5
Connect the wires to the speaker and mount the speaker into its hole. The wires are often screwed into place on terminals in back of the speaker and then the speaker is bolted or screwed into the wall. Check the speakers' instruction manual for the exact mounting procedure for your particular speakers.
