The Visa Electron debit/credit card is an internationally recognized card available to consumers in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and other regions. It's not available to those in the United States, Australia or Canada. However, the Visa Electron Card can be used in those areas. It is preferred by many because it will not allow you to overspend what is in your current account.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bank account
  • Application form
  1. Step 1

Go to your primary bank. If you do not have a bank account, apply for one.

  2. Step 2

Ask for an application for the Visa Electron card. Remember, the Visa Electron card is not available to those in the United States, Canada or Australia. It can, however, be used in those regions by cardholders.

  3. Step 3

Fill out the application form given to you at the bank. It will ask for straight forward information including your address and bank details.

  4. Step 4

Return the application form to the bank cashier. Make sure that all of the information is correct and ask any questions that you may have at this time.

  5. Step 5

The card will be mailed directly to your house within one to two weeks. At this point, call the number on the card (or on the letter) and activate your new Visa Electron debit card.

Tips & Warnings
  • You cannot overdraw with a Visa Electron card because the card requires that all funds be available when the transaction takes place. This is the primary difference between the Visa Electron Card and the Visa Debit card.
  • The Visa Electron Card is not accessible to those in Australia or North American countries, including the United States and Canada. Some places cannot support the Visa Electron card because they cannot check available funds prior to completing the transaction.
