How to Make Macrame Name Bracelets
Macrame name bracelets are a type of handmade jewelry that can be crafted quickly and easily, but can also hold a lot of significance. You can make a bracelet with your own name on it, the name of your child or grandchild, or even the name of a lost loved one whom you want to keep close. Macrame name bracelets are generally made of hemp. Macrame is the name of the knotting style that is used to create their unique appearance.

1
Measure the wrist of the person who will wear the bracelet. Add at least 1 inch to that measurement to leave room for tying the bracelet on later.
-
2
Cut two pieces of hemp cord. Each piece should be twice the length of the measurement you have taken.
-
-
3
Fold each piece of hemp cord in half. Loop both pieces of folded cord over a pencil. Pull the loose ends of each cord through the loop of the folded end and pull both pieces tight on the pencil right next to each other.
-
4
Mark the cord where the letters should go. Lay the letters out side-by-side and measure how much space they take up. Use a tape measure to measure the cords and find the middle. Make a mark close to the middle of the bracelet on the two middle cords where you would like the beginning of your name to start.
-
5
Knot the cords down to the name mark. To make a simple half-square knot, let the two middle strands of cord remain where they are and take the right strand in your right hand and the left strand in your left hand. Cross the right strand over the two middle strands and under the left strand. Cross the left strand behind the two middle strands and tuck it through the loop made by the right strand. Pull it tightly together to make a knot. It should move up to the top right beneath the pencil. Continue to knot the strands in this fashion until you reach the line that you have marked for your name.
-
6
Thread the beads. Pull only the two middle strands of hemp or cord through the center of each bead, spelling out the name.
-
7
Continue tying half-square knots until you reach 1 inch away from the end of your cord. Remove the pencil from the loop end. Double-knot the loops together for extra hold. Tie the ends of the bracelet together to hold it on the wrist.
