A properly adjusted garage door is vital for energy efficiency, security and wildlife control. Garage doors are very easy to adjust, and can be done in less than 15 minutes. Each garage door opener has limits which control the opening and closing heights of the door. These limits must be set correctly for the door height to have a proper seal, as well as to allow for adequate clearance.
Step 1
Set up your step ladder beneath the garage door opener, being certain the ladder is level and stable.

Locate the limit adjustments screws located on the side of the opener. These are normally plastic, and will be marked either "Up" and "Down" or "Open" and "Close."
Step 3
If you wish for the door opening height to increase, you will turn the "Up" or "Open" screw in a clockwise direction. Turn it only a quarter of a turn.
Step 4
Test the opener to see if the door height is now at the desired level. If not, repeat step 3 until the proper door height is reached.
Step 5
If the door is not closing completely, you will turn the "Close" or "Down" screw one quarter turn in a counterclockwise direction. You will then need to check the door opening as instructed in Step 4.
