Windshield wipers tend to go bad and need to be replaced. Most people avoid replacing the wipers until it rains or snows. By then, it is either too inconvenient to change the wipers (imagine standing in a rain or snow storm trying to install a windshield wiper) or they simply quit while driving. An accident is then the unfortunate result. The general rule is that windshield wipers should be changed yearly, preferably just before the rainy season starts in your area.

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 windshield wipers
  1. Step 1

Remove the old windshield wiper first. Pull the entire assembly away from the windshield. It should move itself automatically into a raised position. Take one hand and hold the wiper arm while using your free hand to depress the small tab that is in location on the underside of the wiper near the metal arm. Pressing said tab will help to remove the wiper by being able to pull the center of it towards the bottom of the metal arm.

  2. Step 2

Place the wiper blade very carefully against the windshield in a down position. This will ensure that the metal arm cannot do any serious damage to your windshield before you install the new wiper.

  3. Step 3

Look at the side of the wiper where it attaches directly to the metal arm. One side has a curved top part and the other has a plastic clip. Rotate the plastic clip until the curved part is pointing towards the wiper blade.

  4. Step 4

Place the wiper in an upside down direction next to the metal arm. Note that the hook-shaped or curve of the metal arm matches the curved section of the plastic clip.

  5. Step 5

Take the wiper and lower it down over the wiper arm. Make sure the metal arm is securely between the sides of the wiper and that the hook-shaped or curve of the metal arm is facing the plastic clip.

  6. Step 6

Move the hook slowly over the plastic clip and pull the wiper upwards until the plastic clip's curved edge side slides into the hooked portion of the metal arm. The whole assembly should click into place as you pull it tightly. Once this has been done, lower the wiper back onto the windshield safely. Your new wiper job is in completion.
