How to Make Silver Cleaner at Home
Though silver is a beautiful metal, its one drawback is that it can tarnish easily. While clean, sparkling silver makes for stunning jewelry, silverware or other home decor, the charm is lost when the silver is covered with unsightly tarnish. Select a bowl large enough to submerse your silver pieces in water. Line the bottom of the bowl with a piece of aluminum foil. Place your silver pieces on top of the foil.

Fill a saucepan with enough water to cover the silver, and bring to a boil. Meanwhile, sprinkle a coat of baking soda over the silver in the bowl.

Pour the boiling water over the silver pieces. Allow to soak until the water has cooled enough to touch. Remove the silver pieces after they have soaked.

Polish the silver with a soft cloth. Tarnish may remain in small crevices or intricate engravings on the piece. Identify any areas that need further polishing.

Squeeze a pea-size amount of toothpaste onto an old, soft toothbrush. Gently rub the toothpaste into the silver on any areas that need further polishing. Rinse with clean water and polish dry with a soft cloth.
