Although you cannot insert a Java Applet directly into a PowerPoint presentation, you can use a work around. Microsoft MVP Shyam Pillai has created the free software called LiveWeb. The software is an Add-in for PowerPoint that allows the insertion of Web pages from the Internet or your hard drive into a PowerPoint slide. The program then refreshes the web page in real time.

Instructions

  1. Adding LiveWeb to PowerPoint

      Extracting the files from the LiveWeb Zip file

      Extract the three files in the zip file to any folder.

      Opening the Add-ins dialog box

      Open PowerPoint, go to the Tools menu and select Add-ins.

      Browse the folder to which you extracted the files, select the LiveWeb.ppa file and click OK.

      Depending on the Macro Security settings in PowerPoint, you may be prompted to Enable Macros or Disable Macros. Click the Enable Macros button.

      When the Add-ins box appears with LiveWeb listed as available, click the Close button.

      Go to the Insert Menu and select Web Pages.

      Type in the web address of the web page you wish to display. You can enter more pages by clicking the Add button after each address is entered. Click Next when finished.

      Choose the Refresh settings your prefer. Click Next when finished.

      Set up the size and position of the web page in your slide. Click Next when finished.

      Choose whether or not run the presentation at this time and then click Finish.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can set the Macro Security Settings in PowerPoint by going to the Tools menu and choosing Macro and then Security. On the Security Level tab, choose Low.

  • If LiveWeb cannot find the web page in the location you have indicated,it will search a designated folder on your hard drive.
