Lay the pillowcase flat on a work table. Along the top opening, measure in 5 inches with a ruler from each end on the front and back in four places. Mark these with a fabric pen.

Use four pieces of grosgrain ribbon in a coordinating color, 1 inch wide and 6 inches long. Hold one end of a ribbon just behind the 5-inch mark on the inside of the pillow case. Using a needle and thread, hand stitch the ribbon securely to the pillow case with small, overcast stitches. Make a knot and cut off excess thread with scissors. Proceed in the same manner with the other three strips of ribbon, securing them to the inside of the pillow case at the 5-inch marks with overcast stitches. Make a knot and cut off excess ribbon with scissors.

Sew on a large decorative button with a needle and thread on the outside of the pillow case and on top of the place where the ribbon end was sewed on. Make a knot to secure the button and cut off excess thread with scissors. Proceed in the same manner and sew on the other three large decorative buttons on the outside of the pillow case where the ribbons were sewn on.

Tie the pillow case to the hanger on two ends with each set of ribbons sewn on the pillow case, making a bow with the ribbons. Hang the hanging clothes hamper in the closet or on a door hook.

    Tips & Warnings

    • When the hanging clothes hamper needs washing itself, simply untie the ribbons and wash in the washing machine. Dry in the dryer and rehang, securing it to the clothes hanger. Brightly printed and themed pillow cases work well for children's rooms.
