How to Make an Origami Rose Bouquet
We all know that a rose can say "I love you," but imagine how much more it could say when it's made by the one you love. Traditional rose bouquets are expensive, especially at Valentine's Day and Mother's Day. For your next anniversary, don't just give her the usual bouquet of flowers. Make a bouquet that she can enjoy forever following these simple steps.
Things You'll Need
- 12 pieces of 6-inch by 6-inch red origami paper
- 24 pieces of 12-inch green pipe cleaner
- 2 sheets green paper
- 1 black, 1 blue and 1 orange pen
- Craft glue
- wrapping paper or ribbon (optional)
Instructions
-
Folding your rose
-
1
Lay your sheet of paper on a flat surface, fold the square in half and draw a black line along the crease.
-
2
Fold the lower and upper half toward each other to create four creases and mark them. Rotate the paper and repeat the last two steps. You should have 16 squares.
-
-
3
Fold the paper diagonally both ways and mark your diagonal creases with blue lines.
- 4
-
5
Fold the black and blue lines upward and the orange lines inward. Press down on the horizontal and vertical parts counterclockwise, then press down on the center. You should have a square.
-
6
Turn the paper over and you should have a design with four squares. Form your rose by taking the top right corner of each square and folding it counterclockwise, lining it up with the border of the adjacent square. Once you have done all the sides you should have a rose shape.
-
7
Turn the rose upside down and fold down the petals one by one, when you reach the last petal tuck it under the previous petal and you have your first rose. Repeat steps 1 to 7 with the 12 sheets of paper. You should now have 12 roses.
Making the stems
-
8
Take two pieces of pipe cleaner and twist them around each other tightly from top to bottom. You can opt to use one piece of pipe cleaner per rose, but the rose will droop. Repeat this step using the remaining 22 pieces of pipe cleaner, you should now have 12 stems.
-
9
Take a sheet of green paper and fold it in half lengthwise. Starting from the crease make a leaf tracing about 2 ½ inches long, trace six leafs on one sheet. Do this with both sheets of paper and cut out the tracings. Cut the tracings in half to create two separate leafs. You should have 24 leafs, two for each rose.
-
10
Place a tiny bit of glue onto the end of a stem and insert the stem about 1 cm into one of the paper flaps on the bottom of your rose. Wait for the glue to dry, and then bend the stem downward.
-
11
Complete step three on the remaining stems and roses, then grab a leaf and dab a small amount of glue onto the its bottom half. Stick the leaf onto the rose at the base where the stem comes out. Do two leaves for each rose and let glue dry.
-
12
Gather up your flowers and bend and arrange them to your liking. Wrap them using a ribbon, paper, or simply place them in a vase.

Tips & Warnings
You can substitute thick printer paper and cut it yourself. Play with paper of different colors. You could fold a variety, or pick your loved one's favorite color and create a bouquet of flowers in different shades of that color. If you can't find pipe cleaner, green paper will also work as a stem. Take a sheet of green paper, cut it in half lengthwise, roll the halves tightly and glue. Practice first on plain paper if you have not done origami before.
