- Planks of wood with stake tips, measured 3 inches wide by 6.5 feet long (amount depends on size of fence)
- Hammer
- Roundhead nails, 3/4 an inch long, at least 40
- Gloves
- Rubber mallet
- Tape measure

1
Measure the area around your hot tub where you want a fence in order to find the amount of wood you need to purchase. If you need to soften up the ground to insert the fence, shovel out a one-foot deep trench around the hot tub and fill it with softer soil or clay. Let it harden a little for a couple of days.

2
Measure the area, keeping in mind that you will need a plank of wood with a stake tip every two feet that will anchor the lattice fence into the ground. The other planks of wood you need will be nailed diagonally across the thicker stake pieces, and these should be spaced on the fence two inches apart from each other. Create the lattice fence with two to three walls, blocking the areas you want privacy for, but leaving a clear area so you can get to the hot tub.

3
Lay out the thicker, longer, stake planks that are 6.5 feet long parallel to each other, spaced two inches apart to measure out for the first wall of the fence. The ending result of the lattice fence will be a criss-crossing of the wood resembling a tic-tac-toe board, nailed together. Use the tape measure to create spacing between the planks and make sure the stake ends of the planks are lined up evenly.
-
4
Lay the other smaller planks that are six feet long next to you. Starting at one corner of the original planks laid on the ground, place one of the smaller planks diagonally across the planks that are already laying down. Keep in mind to leave the extra six inches of wood where the stake points are clear of any other wood, because this will be where you insert the fence into the ground to anchor it. Use your marker to draw a line where you will need to saw off the excess wood plank (you will be using the excess pieces to lay diagonally across the other walls of the fence). Continue to lay down the planks diagonally, marking where each needs to be cut off.
-
5
Remove the planks, and then saw off the excess wood. Use the hammer to securely nail the smaller measured out planks to all of the stake planks lying on the ground, using one nail right in the middle where the planks meet. When you are finished with this wall, it will resemble a lattice fence.
-
6
Repeat this procedure for the other one to two walls of the lattice fence, repeating the same pattern you used for the first wall. Use the leftover wood that you cut off so you do not end up with lots of random pieces of planks.
-
7
Pick up the first lattice fence wall. Place it on the ground by the hot tub where you want it to be anchored. Use your hands to grind the stakes into the ground. Then, use a rubber mallet to pound the top of the fence farther into the ground so that the wooden stake points are fully inserted up to six inches. Make sure the fence is secure and anchored. Repeat this procedure with the other walls, lining them up next to each other so the sides are touching but not attached.
-
8
Cover the sides of the fence with excess clay and dirt to anchor it more securely when you are finished. The lattice fence will then be ready to provide privacy for your hot tub.
