How to Store a Christening Outfit
A christening is also called baptism, and it is the first step in a child becoming a part of the Christian faith. A girl will wear a white christening dress, and a boy will wear a white suit. A parent may want to preserve the outfit for another child or as a momento. In order to make sure the outfit stays in good condition, it must be stored in specific ways.

1
Clean the christening outfit. Before storing the outfit, you will want to make sure it is clean. Check the cleaning instructions on the tag on the back of the outfit to see what it recommends. Make sure the outfit is completely dry before going to the next step.

2
Store the outfit in a preservation bag. This bag can be bought in a christening store where you bought the outfit, or find it online on such Websites as Christening Essentials (see Resources). The bag will come with its own hanger which should be made out of material to prevent rust stains on the white outfit. The preservation bag needs to be made out of 100 percent unbleached, delicate and woven cotton fabric. This type of fabric is called muslin.

3
Avoid zippers on a preservation bag. Zippers will rust and make it difficult to open over time as well as allowing air to seep into the bag. Air can turn the christening outfit yellowish and dingy. Make sure that the preservation bag has overlapping buttons to help keep air out and avoid rust, dirt and discoloring at the same time.

4
Have the christening outfit sealed in a box. This can be done at a dry cleaners. This method of storing is more costly, but you will have more options on where to store the box such as under a bed or on a shelf in a closet. If the seal of the box is broken, you will need to have it resealed or use the preservation bag method.

5
Find a place to store the christening outfit. Avoid placing it in areas that have various room temperatures such as the basement, garage or laundry room. These all tend to be storage areas, but they also tend to become humid and change quickly from hot to cold depending on the season. If using a preservation bag, store the outfit in a closet since it will have a hanger. If using the sealed box, you can store it in a closet or under a bed.
