Angels are beloved by people of all ages and beliefs. You can make elegant angels from wired ribbon and wire. These inexpensive angels can be made for wedding decor, Christmas decorations or an addition to your angel collection. A beautiful patterned white satin ribbon can make up the main body of the angel. Fashion sheer ribbon by shaping the wire into loops for a glittery set of angel wings.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • White satin wired ribbon, 2 inches or wider, on spool
  • Sheer 2- to 4-inch wide glittery wired ribbon or netting, on spool
  • Satin 1/4-inch wide ribbon, 1 foot
  • Hot glue gun or fabric adhesive
  • 2-inch white pom pom or lightweight wooden bead
  • Florist wire, 5-inch piece
  • Silver or gold wire gift star trim, 4- to 5-inch piece

    Body and Wings

  1. Step 1

Cut two 10-inch pieces of the satin wired ribbon. Cut a 6-inch piece of the 1/4-inch wide satin ribbon.

  2. Step 2

Fold one end under 1/4 inch on the wrong side of the ribbon. Glue in place with hot glue gun or fabric adhesive. Fold the opposite end of the ribbon under 1/2 inch on the wrong side of the wired ribbon. Repeat with the second piece of ribbon.

  3. Step 3

Accordion fold both of the wired satin ribbon pieces. Pinch the ribbon 3 inches down from the 1/2-inch folded end.

  4. Step 4

Tie the 1/4-inch wide piece of ribbon around the pinched area you are holding. Tie a shoe lace bow with the ribbon. This is the waist area of the angel.

  5. Step 5

Fold the ribbon down to create a trim, wide collar look.

  6. Step 6

Cut two 5-inch-long pieces of the sheer ribbon. Hand pleat or accordion fold the wire edging on one side of each piece.

  7. Step 7

Make sure the edge is in 1/4-inch accordion folds.

  8. Step 8

Pull several inches of the wired sheer ribbon from the spool. Form a loop that is 4 1/2 inches wide. Hold between your thumb and forefinger. Twist the ribbon at the center and form a second loop opposite the first one. Twist ribbon and form a 5-inch-long loop. Twist and form a second 5-inch-long loop. Tie the remaining 1/4-inch-wide ribbon at the center tightly to secure the sheer ribbon. This is your set of wings.

  9. Assembly

  10. Step 1

Lay sheer ribbon wings on the work surface. Place the two small accordion pleated ribbon pieces so that they touch at the center of the wing piece. Hot glue to the wings at the center. Either use fabric adhesive or hand stitch the pieces to the wings.

  11. Step 2

Sew or adhere the satin ribbon piece to the center of the wing piece.

  12. Step 3

Adhere the pom pom or bead to the piece of wire. Insert the other end of the wire through the satin ribbon collar. Adhere the wired head into the satin to hide the wire.

  13. Step 4

Form the piece of gold or silver wire trim into a circle and join at the ends for a halo. Adhere to the back of the top of the head. Add tiny silk flowers to the waist area if desired.

Tips & Warnings
  • Paint a face on the angel if desired. Use a 01 paint brush and acrylic paint.
