Make a Bow for Hunting

The hunting bow is one of the oldest and most accurate hunting weapons. This tool has been used for thousands of years in both combat and hunting and is still considered to be the best long-range weapon for hunting today. It is a highly accurate and silent tool that allows the hunter to take down his prey without being detected. These bows can cost a lot of money, but with the right tools you can build your own for next to nothing.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate a young tree sapling that is approximately an inch in diameter and cut it down. Use a sharp knife to strip away the bark and branches from the sapling tree.

    • 2

Whittle (cut) the sapling with your knife until has a staff shape to it. Each of the two ends of the staff should be half an inch in diameter, while the middle of the staff should still be an inch in diameter. Use a sapling that is between 3 and 4 feet in length.

    • 3

Cut two grooves or notches into the ends of the wooden bow. This is where the string will attach to the bow staff. Make the notches a "V" shape.

    • 4

Cut a strip of leather or soft foam and wrap it around the middle of the wooden bow staff. Secure the handle in place with a tack at the top and bottom.

    • 5

Measure and cut the nylon string so it is at least a foot shorter than your bow staff. Tie loops at either end of the string and place the loops in the grooves at each end of the bow.
