How to Fix a Hole in a Subwoofer

A subwoofer is a speaker that comes in a stereo system (whether home audio or car audio) that pushes out low-end frequencies or bass sounds. These speakers will put some rumble in your trunk or add theater-like sound to your home entertainment center. From time to time you may encounter a blown subwoofer speaker. This happens when the subwoofer's speaker cone is torn or a hole is punched into it, which can leave the bass sounding muddled. This problem can be easily fixed with a few household items.

Things You'll Need:

• Bowl
• Water
• Glue
• Tissue paper

1. Remove the casing of the subwoofer speaker. Examine the speaker to find the location of the hole in the speaker cone.

2. Cut about 10 pieces of tissue paper into pieces about a half inch bigger than the hole in the speaker cone. The best kind of tissue paper to use is the kind that you find in hobby shops and craft stores.

3. Grab a bowl and dump a significant amount of Elmer's glue into the bowl. Now add water to the glue in the bowl until the glue is thin and soup like.

4. Place the 10 pieces of tissue paper into the bowl of diluted glue.

5. Stick one piece or layer of tissue paper over the hole in the speaker and allow it an hour to dry. After the first layer has dried add three more layers one at a time, allowing time for each layer to dry before adding the next one.

6. Place the speaker in a ventilated area and give it 24 hours to dry completely. After it is dry you can reassemble the subwoofer.
