Things You'll Need:
- Assortment of small metric sockets
- Distributor wrenches
-
Step 1
Make the initial adjustments to the choke with the engine off and cold. The choke adjustment is round, faces the fan shroud, is hard to get to and is held in place by three small screws. Before making any adjustment, mark the housing of the carb body with a marking pen, in case a return to the original settings becomes necessary.
-
Step 2
Loosen the three screws. Open the throttle for the choke plate to move freely. Turn the electric choke housing in the direct opposite that you want the choke plate to move. Since the engine is cold, the choke should be closed or nearly so.
-
Step 3
Check the wire between the coil and the choke. Since the choke has an electric heating element in it, there must be a wire from the positive (+) of the coil to the connector on the choke. The connection must be firm. Any corrosion that may have accumulated can be removed with a small wire brush.
-
Step 4
Re-tighten the three screws and observe the choke as the engine warms up. The choke should be fully open when the engine is at operating temperature.
