Antler lamps are typically used in log cabins or other rustic settings. The antlers don't have to come from only deer. They can also come from moose, mule or elk. Since deer shed their antlers each year, the supply of real antlers is steady. Plastic craft antlers are also available. Adapting an existing lamp into an antler lamp is a fairly simple craft project. Lamps can also be sold, for additional income.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Real or craft antlers
  • Existing lamp with shade
  • Gorilla Glue or hammer and nails

    Instructions

  1. Step 1

Choose the type of antlers you will need and think about what you want the final product to look like. Since antlers, whether real or plastic, come in many sizes, you will also need to know what type of lamp you will be converting. Also keep in mind that if you use real antlers, Gorilla Glue is recommended, as real antlers are hard to drill into. If you use craft antlers, nails will suffice if the lamp base is also wooden.

  2. Step 2

Take the lampshade off of the lamp and try different ways of arranging the antlers on the lamp base. When you have found an arrangement you like, glue the first set of antlers to the lamp base.

Work any other antlers around this first set of antlers and up toward the light bulb. Do not let the antlers touch the bulb, as the antlers will burn over time. Glue these antlers in place as well.

  4. Step 4

When the lamp is complete, replace the shade, unless you have used antlers to cover the sides of the light bulb so they are not showing.

Tips & Warnings
  • An alternative project you might consider would be making an antler chandelier.
