Things You'll Need:
- 12-inch hanging basket
- Clean fresh soil
- Sand
- 1 Easter lily bulb
- 8 daffodil bulbs
- 6 tulips
- 6 large hyacinth bulbs
- 20 mini hyacinth bulbs
- Plant food
-
Step 1
Make sure the basket has at least 4 holes in the bottom of the basket to ensure proper drainage. If there are no holes, you can make your own with an electric screw driver, butter knife, or even scissors. The holes needn't be large; as long as water can drain out, it will work.
-
Step 2
Add half the soil to the basket and set the rest aside. Because you're planting bulbs you should purchase soil that is a starter mix or bulb mix. The soil label should say this somewhere on the front of the package. Add about 3 cups of sand to the basket, and mix the soil with your hands or a gardening tool. The sand will help with containing the moisture and is good for bulbs.
-
Step 3
Place the Easter lily in the center of the basket. Place the daffodil bulbs around the Easter lily in a circular pattern. Place the tulip bulbs in a circular pattern outside the daffodil bulbs. Place the hyacinth bulbs around the tulip bulbs. Make sure you're spacing the bulbs apart at least an inch between bulbs to give room for roots to form.
-
Step 4
Pour the rest of the soil into the basket. Add the mini hyacinth bulbs to the basket around the larger hyacinth bulb, and push down gently to insert them into the soil. The mini hyacinth bulbs are very small, approximately 1/2 to 1 inch in size. You want to place them in the basket after pouring the soil into the basket because they would be buried too deep if you don't.
-
Step 5
Sprinkle plant food on the top of the soil and water the basket. Repeat watering only when the soil is dry to touch. You do not need to repeat the plant food. To give the basket as a gift, wait for the bulbs to start poking out of the soil, cover with Easter plastic wrap or gift paper and deliver to the recipient. All the bulbs will bloom during the spring during or around Easter time.
