In the economy we live in, more and more people are trying to cut costs everywhere. Making our favorite store-bought foods can really save a lot of money. Here are two of my favorite salad dressings I make in my own kitchen - and they're delicious - just like the real thing!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • See below
  1. Step 1

    Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing

Here are the ingredients you will need:

    4 tbsp. dry parsley flakes
    1 tsp. black pepper
    2 tbsp. onion salt
    1 quart mayonnaise
    1 pint sour cream
    1 tsp. garlic salt
    1 tsp. salt
    2 tbsp. MSG or Accent
    1 pint buttermilk

To make the dressing, get out a medium bowl and put all ingredients in the bowl. Combine until well mixed. Allow flavors to blend in the refrigerator overnight. Place into a container (we like to use squirt bottles!) This makes 2 quarts of dressing, but the recipe can be halved easily if necessary. Stores well chilled for a few weeks. Use just like you would the store brand.

  3. Step 3

    Catalina Salad Dressing

Here are the ingredients you will need for this yummy dressing:

    1/4 tsp. black pepper
    1/4 cup vinegar
    1/2 cup ketchup
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 onion, grated
    1/2 cup sugar
    1 cup salad oil

  4. Step 4

In a medium bowl, beat the first six ingredients together until well mixed. Slowly add the oil as you continue beating the mixture until all is mixed smoothly. Refrigerate. Place into an appropriate container (as we said above, squeeze bottles are great!). Makes 1 pint of dressing. Keeps well in the fridge for a couple of weeks!
