Instructions

    • 1

Fold a large, square piece of white fabric in half.

    • 2

Cut a hole in the fold for your child's head.

    • 3

Sew the sides together, leaving wide openings at the top for your child's arms.
Depending on the fabric, there may be transparency issues, so make sure your child is wearing something suitable underneath the costume, such as shorts and an undershirt.

    • 4

Create a chest piece by cutting a shape out of cardboard and decorating it with gold spray paint. Also spray paint a pair of sandals for your child. Allow to dry, and affix it to your child's dress/caftan with Velcro, or simply make it into a necklace.

    • 5

Tie a gold sash or gold chain around the waist of the costume.

    • 6

Apply makeup. For girls, use black eyeshadow in a bold line from inner eye to about 1/2 inch past the outer edge of the eye. Use blue or gold eyeshadow on the upper lid.
Boys may not want to wear makeup.

    • 7

Fix your child's hair. Again, girls will be more receptive to a new hairstyle than boys, so you may want to leave a boy's hair natural. For girls, you can either use a crimping iron or create many tiny braids to create the look of an Egyptian royal.
