Instructions

    • 1

Boil 2.5 cups of water. Add salt, and stir to dissolve.

    • 2

Measure out 4 cups of flour into a large bowl while the water is boiling. When the salt water mixture is ready, pour over the flour.

    • 3

Mix flour and water together to create your homemade plaster. Once the plaster mixture cools enough, knead it the same way you would bread dough to make a smooth dough.

    • 4

Shape your homemade plaster into a circle, square or heart. You can use a cake pan to help you make the shape that you desire. Once you have a nicely shaped piece of soft plaster, you can imprint baby's hand or foot print directly into the plaster.

    • 5

Bake your baby's plaster hand or foot print for approximately three hours at 225 degrees F. Bake on a cookie sheet covered by a layer of aluminum foil for best results.

    • 6

Paint your plaster piece any way you desire. When the paint is dry, spray with an acrylic sealer to preserve and protect your piece for years to come!

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have older kids, let them use some of the homemade plaster to make anything they want. This project can be a family affair.

  • Be careful not to burn yourself when pouring the boiling water over the flour. Make sure the plaster is completely cool before imprinting baby's hand or foot.
