How to Bridge a 760 Watt Pioneer Amp

Multi-channel car amplifiers, those that are built to drive two or four speakers, usually sport a very useful feature called "bridging." In bridging, the output of two channels is combined into one single channel. This feature is utilized when the user wants to drive a single speaker, in most cases a subwoofer. We'll look at how to do this with a Pioneer amplifier, but the same method is used for almost all car amplifiers.

Things You'll Need

• Pioneer 760-watt amplifier
• Speaker wire
• Subwoofer
• Wire cutter/stripper
• Screwdriver

Instructions

1. 

   Find the speaker terminals on your Pioneer 760-watt amp. They'll be on the right end of the amplifier, and are labeled "speaker output."

2. 

   Cut a length of speaker wire long enough to reach from your amplifier to your subwoofer, and strip the ends of the wire so that 3/8 to 1/2 inch of bare wire is visible.

3. Loosen the screws on the "+" and "-" terminals of the amp that are labeled "bridged." Slide the positive lead of the speaker wire into the "+" terminal and tighten down, then slide the negative lead of the speaker wire into the "-" terminal and tighten down.

4. 

   Connect the other end of the speaker wire into the subwoofer's speaker terminals. Be sure the positive lead is connected to the terminal marked "+," and the negative to "-." The amp's output is now bridged.
