How to Ease Abdominal Pain During Pregnancy

Suffering abdominal pain during pregnancy isn't the most reassuring feeling a woman can experience in any trimester, but it doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong with the baby. It can be a result of gas, heartburn, constipation or quite simply the position of your child. While you should talk to your doctor about any pain or discomfort you come across during the term of your pregnancy, as it's always best to weigh on the side of caution, there are some things you can do to help ease these types of sensations.

Instructions

Take a seat. One of the easiest things a woman can do when trying to ease abdominal pain during pregnancy is to take a seat, especially if the pain sets in while on your feet. Often times, the pain will pass after a few minutes.

    • 2

Apply a little heat. Sometimes, resting a heating pad directly on the area of pain or discomfort can help ease the sensation. Make sure to keep the setting on warm and only apply it for a few minutes at a time.

    • 3

Keep fit. If you keep yourself fit or engage in moderate exercise while pregnant, many of the pains and discomforts of pregnancy, including abdominal pain, will be less intense.

    • 4

Try bending slightly toward the area of pain. Many times, a simple movement, like bending or shifting toward the pain or discomfort, can also ease the sensation you are feeling. This can help release a knot or built-up gas.

    • 5

Pay attention to triggers. If your abdominal pain comes soon after meals, you should really start paying more attention to what you are eating. Some of the foods you're putting in your body could be causing heartburn or gas that is prompting the pain. Once you know what foods are triggering the uncomfortable sensations, you can start to avoid them with a modified diet.

    • 6

Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Some women can experience abdominal pain during pregnancy from tightly fitted clothing. To remedy or avoid this sort of problem, make sure to keep your clothes loose and comfortable--especially when you sleep.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you're suffering from more severe pain or cramping, you should contact your doctor immediately, as it could be a sign of a much more serious condition.
