How to Tell What System Supports PCI Express
PCI slots have existed as the standard for adding cards to the basic PC for many years. PCI Express is the next step. Before you buy an add-on card, you need to know if you have a PCI Express slot.

Check the manufacturer's website for the computer brand you own. If you have a name-brand computer, you should be able to go to the website and type in your model or serial number and get a list of your specifications.

Use software. There are programs available for free or purchase (see Resources below) that will detect all types of hardware you have in your computer. You can run these programs and then get a detailed list of your computer's specifications.

Open the case on the computer and look in the back where the video and sound go in, and look for a PCI card. There is one pictured in this article. If your computer has a PCI Express slot, it will support it.
