In order to create your own website with Joomla you will need a domain name and hosting account, an FTP client, and ZIP software. When Joomla is installed on your website, you will have the opportunity to create templates, add Javascript, and use all the modules needed to make your new site.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Download FTP and ZIP software. You can find them on major downloading sites on the Internet for free. Install the FTP and ZIP software to your computer. Go to the Joomla site and download the most recent version. Extract the files to your computer.

  2. Step 2

Open your new FTP software and type in the FTP server name, your username and password. Keep the Port area blank unless you are told to place a number there. Hit the connection button and your website files will come up on the right hand side. Look for the public_html location. You will place your Joomla files here.

  3. Step 3

Copy all your Joomla files to your directory. Create a configuration.php file using a plain text editor. Open your Wordpad or Notepad and save as "configuration.php." Be sure to select "All Files" in the "Save As Type" area. In order to create a website with Joomla, you will have to upload this file to your Joomla files.

  4. Step 4

Right-click on the file once it's uploaded and choose file permissions. Change the numeric value from 644 to 777 during the installation process. When you're finished, open it back up and return the numeric value to 644. Then, create your databases for the control panel, PHP admin, and the command line. Follow the remaining steps on your hosting site.

  5. Step 5

Go back to your FTP client and open it. Your hosting account will ask you to remove the installation directory. Find the installation folder and right-click on it. Select delete and left-click. You're finished uploading the Joomla files. Now you can start creating a website with Joomla.

  6. Step 6

Login to your administrator account. Use the template manager to change the landscape of your template. Make sure everything blends in together for maximum exposure. Save any changes you have made. When you're finished, go back and look for the module manager extension.

  7. Step 7

Add any modules that are needed when you create a website with Joomla. Click the "Next" button, and enter your details on the following page. Insert the title and position. Look for the Menu assignments area and choose the pages you want your new module on. Click "Save." Continue you doing this until you have created your website.
