How to Use a Dremel Drill
A Dremel is a hand-held tool with an electric motor that rotates about 30,000 rotations per minute. Accessory bits are connected to the Dremel to do a multitude of tasks, such as carving wood, etching glass, sharpening or cutting steel, polishing, sanding and buffing. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Dremel
- Bit
- Safety glasses or goggles
- Tightening wrench
- Dust mask, if necessary

Unplug your Dremel for safety.

Screw on the rubber collar, if your Dremel has been disassembled.

Insert the collet into the hollow end of the shaft.

Insert the cap.

Insert your bit while holding down on the shaft lock button, located at the neck of the tool.

Tighten the cap or collet nut with the tightening wrench.

Put on your safety glasses and plug back in.

Grip the Dremel as if you are holding a pencil.

Hold the Dremel away from your face and use light pressure, practicing on scrap material first. Do not push the tool during use.

Tips & Warnings
Long hair should be tied back to avoid getting caught in the tool.
Blocking the air vents with your hands can cause overheating. Use a dust mask when working with lead-based paint, crystalline silica from bricks and cement, and chemically treated lumber. These items contain chemicals that can cause cancer or birth defects.
