Five Ways to Make a Flower Costume

You can make as many different flower costumes as there are flower types, from a cheerful daisy to a flower pot. Flower costumes can be as creative and intricate as the real things, depending on the materials you have and the time you wish to spend on the craft.

Sew a Basic Flower

Things You'll Need

  • Green leggings

  • Green long-sleeve shirt

  • Green felt

  • Contrast color felt

  • Scissors

  • Elastic

  • Needle and thread

Cut two leaf shapes out of felt and stitch on elastic straps. Cut petal shapes out of colorful felt, stitch them together at the seams and sew a hem pocket around the center opening. Thread elastic through the hem pocket and stitch the unit to a crown. Dress in green and slip on the leaves and the petal crown.

Tutu Turned Flower

Things You'll Need

  • White shirt

  • Green felt or green fabric marker

  • Needle and thread (optional)

  • Small tutu or elastic and green tulle

  • Green tutu

  • Green leggings

Stitch a green felt stem onto a white shirt, or draw one on with fabric markers. Find a small tutu that fits around your head like a crown, or make one by tying tulle around a loop of elastic. Pull a green tutu over green leggings and become a flower.

Covered In Flowers

Things You'll Need

  • Leggings

  • Long-sleeve shirt

  • Beanie

  • Hot glue gun

  • Lots of artificial flowers

Remove the stems and leaves from a wide selection of artificial flowers. Use hot glue to attach them to leggings, a long-sleeve shirt and a beanie cap. Cover the entire costume, overlapping the flowers generously.

Flower Pot

Things You'll Need

  • Craft knife

  • Plastic laundry basket

  • Two dozen artificial flowers with stems

  • Yarn

  • Rope

  • Brown paper

Cut out the bottom of a plastic laundry basket. Use yarn to tie several stemmed artificial flowers around the basket's inside edge, weaving the stems into the holes. Attach a rope to each basket handle and tie it into a loop, to help it rest comfortably on your shoulders. Cover the basket in brown paper.

Headdress

Things You'll Need

  • Plastic container lid

  • Polyester stuffing

  • Hot glue gun

  • Scissors

  • Yellow felt

  • Constrast color felt

  • Plastic headband

Cover a plastic container lid with yellow felt, squeeze in a little stuffing to give it some body and hot glue it in place. Cut petal shapes out of felt in a contrasting color and hot glue them to the back of the yellow center. Hot glue the flower to a plastic headband.

Tip

Dress up your flower costume further by adding butterfly pins, bees, glitter and lots of perfume.
