How to Add a ZIP File to an Email

Whatever would people do without data and email? The latter has taken over most correspondence. The former has taken over everything else. Where once everyone wrote on paper, spun records, or played videotape, now they manipulate trillions of ones and zeros. And then compress them in a ZIP file and share them with each other via email; even when it isn't conveyed physically, data is still bulky in an electronic sort of way. If you've want to send ZIP files with an email but aren't sure how, read on. There are a number of ways to proceed.

Instructions

    Outlook Express

  1. Step 1
     

    Create a new mail message.

  2. Step 2
     

    Choose a recipient and type your message.

  3. Step 3
     

    Click "Insert" and choose "File Attachment." A dialogue box opens.

  4. Step 4
     

    Navigate to the folder containing the ZIP file you wish to attach. Select the file and click "Attach."

  5. Step 5
     

    Click "Send."

  6. AIM Mail

  7. Step 1
     

    Click "Compose" to create a new mail message.

  8. Step 2
     

    Choose a recipient and type your message.

  9. Step 3
     

    Click "File Attachment." A dialogue box opens.

  10. Step 4
     

    Navigate to the folder containing the ZIP file you wish to attach. Select the file. Click "Open."

  11. Step 5
     

    Click "Send."

  12. GMail

  13. Step 1
     

    Click "Compose Mail" to create a new message.

  14. Step 2
     

    Choose a recipient and type your message.

    Click "Attach File." A dialogue box opens.

    Navigate to the folder containing the ZIP file you wish to attach. Select the file and click "Open."

    Wait for file to upload, then click "Send."

  18. Hotmail

    Click "New" to create a new mail message.

    Choose a recipient and type your message.

    Click "Attach." Note the appearance of a search field box with a "Browse" button below the subject line.

    Click "Browse." A dialogue box opens.

    Navigate to the folder containing your ZIP file. Select the file and click "Open."

    Wait for file to upload, then click "Send."

  25. Yahoo! Mail

  26. Step 1
     

    Click "Compose" to create a new mail message.

    Choose a recipient and type your message.

    Click "Attach File." A new screen opens with a series of five field boxes, with a button labeled "Browse" beside each.

    Click "Browse." A dialogue box opens.

  30. Step 5
     

    Navigate to the folder containing the ZIP file you wish to attach. Select the file and click "Open."

  31. Step 6
     

    Click "Attach Files."

  32. Step 7
     

    Wait for file to upload, then click "Send."

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure your ZIP file isn't too large. Most email service providers have a 10MB to 20MB limit on the size of attached files.
