Gift tissue papers can be decorative materials with a little bit of imagination and elbow grease. You use tissue papers to embellish a decorative item to make it a work of art that can be a focal point of the room. There are different types of tissue papers to choose from; there are colorful ones and patterned ones. One way you can really make your room look different is by covering the walls with tissue papers to add depth and texture to your design. You can choose a small room to try out first, like the powder room or a home office, before doing the rest of the house.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Assorted tissue paper
  • Decoupage glue
  • Sponge or brush
  • Paint
  1. Step 1

Prepare the walls. Remove nails, hooks and pins from the wall. By removing the sharp objects, you will lessen the chance of ruining the finish. Even if you intend to hang the art pieces in the same location, it is best to avoid doing shortcuts. Also, by doing so, you can prevent bodily harm when someone accidentally leans against the wall.

  2. Step 2

Gather the tissue papers of your choice. Cut them in several strips, about 3 to 4 inches wide and about 10 to 12 inches long. Crumple each one, then stretch it a little after crumpling to give it texture.

  3. Step 3

Dip sponge or brush into the decoupage glue. Then spread the glue on one side of each tissue paper strip.

  4. Step 4

Apply the first paper strip on the wall starting from the top corner. Then, overlap it with the next paper strip working your way to the bottom part of the wall. To save time you can overlap three pieces across, then apply the next row overlapping the top ones. Apply glue on top of each tissue paper before overlapping with the next piece.

  5. Step 5

Inspect the surface for bubbles. Remove bubbles by dabbing carefully on top using your fingers and then adding more decoupage glue to add sheen on the finished look.

  6. Step 6

Let dry for 4 to 6 hours. Add a coat of paint of choice or leave it unpainted to show the true colors of the tissue papers.

Tips & Warnings
  • Buy decoupage from any craft stores. Use metallic paint to finish your room's look to give it a modern touch. Leave the paper strips crumpled without straightening to add more texture.
