If you find yourself out on the trail or even in the car without sunglasses, you can turn a bandanna into an improvised visor to shield your eyes from the sun. You don't need any special materials, and there's no need to use any fancy knots. The only real requirement for the bandanna is that it must be large enough to tie securely around your head.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Large square bandanna
  1. Step 1

Fold the bandanna in half diagonally so that it makes a triangle.

  2. Step 2

Roll the folded edge of the triangle about an inch toward the point.

  3. Step 3

Fold the top layer of the triangle down over the roll, forming a squared diamond shape.

  4. Step 4

Tuck both free corners of the diamond shape in to the center.

  5. Step 5

Lay the layer of the original triangle you had brought down over the rolled edge back on top of its twin. Now the points of the triangle should be trapped between the layers of fabric, forming the edge of your impromptu visor.

  6. Step 6

Roll the folded edge a little further toward the loose ends of the bandanna to trap the folded-in points so that they can't flip out.

  7. Step 7

Tie the bandanna around your head with the visor part extending down and out over your face and the rolled portion on the outside.
