- Scrap piece of wood or plywood at least 1 foot square in size
- Permanent marker
- Screwdriver
- 4 furniture wheel with metal attachment brackets
- Ruler
- Power drill
- Turnbuckle
- Spade drill bit
- ¼-inch metal drill bit
- Rocks
- Glass
- Sand
- Water
- Safety goggles
-
Step 1
Place a paint can or coffee can sideways on the piece of scrap wood. Mark the wood just under the base of the can to designate the spot for the wheel mechanism position. The can must rest firmly on the wheels. Place two wheels on either side of the can. Position wheels 1 inch to the center from each end of the can.
-
Step 2
Turn the furniture wheel upside down, and screw the attached metal brackets to the scrap piece of wood. Screws are provided in the wheel mechanism package.
-
Step 3
Lay the ruler across the center of the can opening. Mark a spot just under the rim of the can parallel to the ruler.
-
Step 4
Drill a hole on the marked spot. Insert the turnbuckle mechanism through the holes.
-
Step 5
Slide the spade drill bit through one of the slits in the turnbuckle mechanism. Push the drill bit into the slit until it fits snugly in place.
-
Step 6
Drill a hole in the paint can lid with a metal drill bit large enough to fit over the exposed end of the turnbuckle mechanism.
-
Step 7
Fill can three-fourths of the way full with rocks or glass to be tumbled. Fill the can the rest of the way full with sand.
-
Step 8
Place the paint can lid firmly over the drill bit exposed end and onto the can. Push the drill onto the spade bit, and turn on to begin tumbling rocks or glass. Tumble for 15 to 30 minutes. Remove the lid to check progress after 10 minutes. Wash tumbled items in warm and soapy water.
