With the advent of the modern word processor, manual functions have become much easier to complete. One such operation is cutting and pasting. Before computers revolutionized the printing industry, newspaper and magazine layout operators used to manually cut and paste articles and photo images to create a layout. Today, cutting and pasting is a simple computer function.

Instructions

      Open the documents that you want to work with. One document should contain the photo image(s) that you want to cut, and the other document should be the target where you wish to paste. Alternately, you can cut and paste within the same document.

      Right-click on the image. Select the "Cut" from the option menu. The image will disappear from the document, but don't worry. It is now loaded into your computer's memory on an invisible "clipboard." Alternately, you can use the keyboard shortcut to cut the photo image out of the document; highlight the image with your mouse and hold down the control and "x" keys simultaneously.

      Go to the location where you wish to paste the photo image. Left-click where you want the picture to appear.

      Paste the image. Right-click the location and select the "Paste" option from the menu. The image will re-appear in the document. Alternately, use the keyboard shortcut to paste the image; hold down the control and "V" keys simultaneously.

Tips & Warnings

  • Only cut and paste one image at a time. Cut and paste techniques can be used for text selections as well. Use the "Undo" function if you make a mistake.
