How to Machine Embroider on Cardstock
Sewing machines are no longer used just for sewing fabric. In fact, it is quite possible to create beautiful embroidered greeting cards and bookmarks from cardstock using your sewing machine. Create one-of-a-kind paper crafts that are fun to make, and even more fun to show off. Projects made by embroidering on cardstock are perfect for selling at crafts fairs, giving as gifts, or keeping for yourself.

1
Begin by putting an embroidery design onto the cardstock. This can be accomplished by either sketching the design by hand or printing a design from the computer. Cut the cardstock to the desired size.
-
2
Hoop the cutaway stabilizer. Using a pencil, draw placement marks for the cardstock on the stabilizer.
-
-
3
Lie the cardstock on top of the hooped stabilizer, paying attention to matching it up to the placement marks. If desired, affix the cardstock to the stabilizer using the spray adhesive.
-
4
Using your sewing machine, stitch the design at a slow speed. Hold the cardstock with your fingers while sewing.
-
5
Once your embroidered design is done, trim excess threads and remove the stabilizer from the hoop. Trim the stabilizer around the cardstock, so that none of the stabilizer is hanging from the sides of the cardstock. Your embroidered cardstock is now ready to be used for your desired project.
