How to Clean Jade Jewelry
Most jade that is set in jewelry is in polished cabochon or bead form. Some jade pieces are carved into pendants or bangles. Jade does not sparkle, its beauty comes from its color and clarity. Many jade pieces are polished with beeswax during the manufacturing process. The jade stones do not require deep cleaning. Here are some simple steps you can take without damaging your jade jewelry. Things You'll Need
- Clean cloths
- Baby shampoo
- Cotton pads
- Cotton swabs
- Makeup brush
- Soft jewelry pouches

Pad your work surface with a cloth. It will catch possible drips and provide some protection in case you drop your jade by accident.

Soak a cotton pad in water and squeeze out the excess. Gently wipe the jade surfaces. Use either plain water or water with a mild soap, such as baby shampoo.

Remove all traces of soap solution (if you are using one) with another damp cotton pad. Dry and buff all jade surfaces with a dry cloth. Dry the jewelry pieces completely.

Store your jade jewelry in soft pouches or a lined jewelry box. To minimize scratching, do not allow pieces to touch each other.

Natural oils from your body are harmless to jade. Give your jade jewelry a quick, dry buff before replacing them into your jewelry box.
Do not soak jade jewelry in water. Use distilled water if you have hard water. Never use chemicals, alcohol or an ultrasonic cleaner to clean jade jewelry. Do not use compressed or canned air to clean jade jewelry. Do not over-clean jade jewelry. A natural patina on jade is highly valued, especially on vintage pieces.
