Mosaics are an easy to do arts and crafts project. Mosaic tiles can be attached to any surface, from canvases to tables and even to pots. Making a mosaic pot can be a creative way to add color and personality to your home or garden. They even make great gifts that can be personalized in many ways. Because of the durability of mosaic tiles, they can easily be used to add flair to everyday items that you can actually use.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mosaic tiles
  • School glue
  • Grout spatula
  • Large sponge
  • Mosaic grout

    Making your Mosaic Pot

  1. Step 1

Gather up the tiles you would like to use to cover your pot. You may choose to purchase pre-cut glass, porcelain, or terra cotta tiles from your local craft store. Or, you can try your local home supplies or flooring store. At these stores you can purchase a large variety of tiles and choose to break them up yourself with a hammer and chisel.

  2. Step 2

Decide on a design for your mosaic pot. You may choose to position your tiles on a flat surface to get an idea for the design you would like to create. Or, you can simply choose tiles at random to avoid a specific pattern.

  3. Step 3

Wash and dry your pots thoroughly to create a clean, dry surface to begin your tiling. Apply a small patch of school glue to your pot and begin putting on your tiles in your chosen pattern.

  4. Step 4

Repeat step 3 until you have covered your pot. Add small patches of glue at a time, as it dries quickly. Avoid using too much glue, as it will cause your tiles to slide down the side of your pot. Let your pot dry for 12 to 24 hours before applying a layer of grout.

  5. Step 5

Combine three parts mosaic grout to one part water in a large tub. Mix well.

  6. Step 6

Brush the grout over your tiles with a grout spatula. If you do not have a grout spatula, you can use your fingers. Be sure to cover wholly and evenly so your tiles stay in place. Let your pot dry for 15-20 minutes.

  7. Step 7

Dampen a sponge and wipe over the top of your pot to remove excess. Repeat until all the grout is removed from the top of the tiles. Let dry to secure your tiles in place.
