Instructions

  1. Washing Caps in a Washing Machine

    • 1

Check the tag on the cap if present, and make sure that it is safe to wash. If there is no tag, identify the material from which the cap is made. Any cotton, cotton blend or jersey material should be safe. Wool caps are the only exception. You should also avoid washing very old caps in the washing machine. These may have a cardboard brim that will not hold up in water. Newer caps have a sturdy brim containing plastic that will be fine in the machine.

    • 2

Pre-treat the fabric with a pre-wash spray. Use this on any noticeable stains, as well as in the brim of the hat, where it makes contact with the forehead. This is the dirtiest part of the cap.

    • 3

Wash the cap in the washing machine with like colors. Use a cold wash and cold rinse cycle. Avoid hot water at all times.

    • 4

Remove the cap from the washing machine when the cycle is complete. Set it out to air dry. Never put a cap through the dryer.

Tips & Warnings

  • Older baseball caps and wool caps should be gently washed by hand in the sink.
