How to Become a Realtor in Connecticut
Realtor is a trademarked term for residential and commercial real estate professionals who belong to the National Association of Realtors. Licensed real estate professionals play an important role in helping property owners in all aspects of selling their property. Become a Real Estate Professional in Connecticut:

Decide which real estate career you are interested in. Connecticut offers a range of licenses for real estate professionals. You will need to choose from real estate salesperson, real estate broker, community association manager, interstate land sales or real estate appraiser.

Complete the educational and experience requirements for the real estate career you've chosen. Real estate salesperson, real estate broker and real estate appraiser positions require specific educational requirements before you can submit your application to the state of Connecticut. Real estate appraisers also must have completed certain experience requirements. Those requirements are outlined at the state of Connecticut, Real Estate and Appraisal Licensing Applications, Education and Information Website (see Resources).

Complete the application for your chosen real estate career. Each of the five real estate careers require you to complete a career specific application and pay an application fee. These application forms are available at the State of Connecticut, Real Estate and Appraisal Licensing Applications, Education and Information Website.

Take and pass your Connecticut state license. Real estate salesperson, real estate broker and real estate appraiser positions require you to take and pass a licensure examination. PSI Exams administers these exams. You can find more information at the PSI website or by calling 800-733-9267.

Find a Local Realtor Board in your area. Now that you have attained the real estate professional license in Connecticut, you will need to join the NAR to become a Realtor. The first step in joining the national organization is to join your local board. There are 21 Local Realtor Boards in Connecticut. You can find a board close to you by referring to the Realtor State and Local Boards Contact Listing for Connecticut.

Now that you have found a Local Realtor Board, you will need to contact the organization using their contact information. You will be asked to complete an application form and submit your application fees and yearly membership dues.

Become a NAR member. By joining and being accepted by your local board, you will automatically receive state and national membership. Now that you have your NAR membership, you can enjoy all the rights and privileges of being a Realtor.
