How to Barbeque a Pork Shoulder
Pork shoulder is one of the most flavorful cuts of pork and one of the most inexpensive. It has a lot of fat, which helps to add taste and moistness. One way that many people cook a pork shoulder is barbecuing it. This is surprisingly easy way to fix pork shoulder. Making barbecued pork shoulder at home is also a lot cheaper than going to a restaurant. Plus, the leftover barbecue can be stored in the freezer. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Large baking pan
- Bowl
- Crock pot
- Sauce pan
- Pork shoulder
- 1 tbsp. salt
- 2 tbsp. black pepper
- 2 tbsp. chili powder
- 2 tbsp. garlic powder
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 2 cups white granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup mustard
- 1 cup molasses
- 2 tbsp. dried thyme
- 2 tbsp. paprika
- 2 tbsp. dried oregano
- 2 large onions
- 1 bell pepper

Combine the salt, pepper, chili powder and garlic powder in a bowl to make a dry rub. Stir to mix.

Unwrap the pork shoulder. Rub the spices all over the pork shoulder and sit it on a plate. Place the plate in the fridge to marinate for an hour.

Put the pork shoulder in a crock pot. Add 2 1/2 cups of water to the crock pot. Put the lid on and cook on low heat for about eight hours or high for about five hours. You can also cook the pork shoulder on the grill or in the oven.

Peel the onions and remove the seeds from the bell pepper. Then, cut the onions and bell pepper into small pieces and put them in a large sauce pan.

Add the brown sugar, granulated sugar, mustard, molasses, thyme, paprika and oregano to the sauce pan. Stir to mix all of the items in the pan. Cook on medium heat for 20 minutes and then remove the mixture from the stove.

Remove the pork shoulder from the crock pot and place it in a large baking pan. Pull the large piece of leathery skin off the shoulder and then pull the pork apart or cut it into small pieces.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Pour the barbecue sauce from the pan over the shredded pork shoulder and mix it in the baking pan. Cover it with aluminum foil and place it in the oven until the pork shoulder is hot. Remove it the oven and serve.
