How to Frost a Cake With Fondant
Frosting a cake with fondant creates a smooth seamless look to the cake. Fondant frosting is frequently used on special occasion cakes. For example most wedding cakes are frosted with fondant. There are two kinds of fondant frosting commonly used on a cake. Rolled fondant is rolled over the cake and pourable fondant is spread over the cake. Using fondant is slightly more involved then frosting a cake with other kinds of frosting, but the ending result is well worth it.

1

-
2
Frost the cake very lightly with buttercream icing. This keeps the fondant in place while you're working.
-
3
Roll out the rolled fondant with a rolling pin to 1/4-inch thick. Adjust the amount of fondant that is rolled with the pin according to the size of the cake. The rolled fondant needs to be large enough after rolling to drape over the entire cake.
