How to Dress for a Total Body Scan & Ultrasound

A total body scan is also known as a full-body CT scan. It is used to diagnose a multitude of medical problems, from heart issues to lung problems and appendicitis. A medical ultrasound is used for a variety of medical purposes, ranging from tumor assessment to pregnancy. Both procedures are non-invasive, so there is very little patient discomfort. However, dressing properly for a total body scan and ultrasound can make the experience more pleasant.

Instructions

    • 1

Keep it simple. The less items of clothing, the better. This makes it easier for technicians to get to necessary areas of your body without requiring you to remove clothing items.

    • 2

Make sure your clothes are easy to get on and off. For a full body scan, you will have to wear a hospital gown. Easy-to-remove elastic and drawstring items are a good option. The fewer zippers and fasteners, the better.

    • 3

Wear socks. Patients can wear socks into the scanning machine, and medical facilities can get very cold.

    • 4

Remove your jewelry at home. Don't wear any jewelry to your scan. Metal is not allowed into the scanning machine, and medical facilities are not liable for loss or theft.

    • 5

Think comfort. Before and between scans, there will probably be a lot of waiting. Wear clothing that will be comfortable if you have to sit for long periods.
