Do the Rockabilly Ponytail Hairstyle

A little bit punk and a lot retro, rockabilly combines 1950s glamour with new millennium chic. It's Betty Page meets Gwen Stephani with a big dash of Johnny Cash. To achieve the rockabilly look, you'll need to head to your local vintage shop for something to wear, but the hair you can do yourself at home with little more than a few faux-diamond clips and some hairspray.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hair dryer
  • Large-barrel curling iron
  • Comb
  • Hair tie
  • Clips or barrettes
  • Hairspray
  1. Step 1

Wash your hair and blow dry it until it's damp.

  2. Step 2

Pull your hair back into a high ponytail and tie it with the hair tie.

  3. Step 3

Curl the ponytail with the curling iron to make a spiral. You can do two or three ponytail curls if you want.

  4. Step 4

If you have bangs, pull them back over the top of your head and push them forward slightly to create a pompadour-like bump. Clip them into place and spray with hairspray.

  5. Step 5

If you don't have bangs, leave some top-front hair out of the ponytail. Divide it into two layers.

  6. Step 6

Take the top layer and tease it with the comb. Use some hairspray on the teased hair.

  7. Step 7

Pull the bottom layer over the teased hair to cover it and clip it into place.

  8. Step 8

Spray the pompadour enough to make it stay in place, and spray the ponytail lightly to hold the curl.
