Take Care of Magnetic Bracelets

The use of magnets to relieve joint pain and inflammation is an increasingly popular form of alternative medicine. Although the benefits of magnetic therapy are not supported by clinical studies, users of magnetic therapy claim that wearing magnets against the skin of affected joints helps to realign disturbances in cells' magnetic fields, thus relieving the pain. If magnetic therapy is working for you, you must take good care of your jewelry to keep the magnets strong and at their most effective.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Soft cloth
  • Mild soap
  • Brass or metal cleaner (optional)
  1. Step 1

Avoid dropping or hitting the magnetic jewelry on a hard surface, as this can reduce the magnetism or remove it altogether.

  2. Step 2

Clean your jewelry by wiping it with a wet cloth and mild soap, rinse it well in water, and allow to air dry. Do not clean your jewelry in a jewelry cleaning machine because this can also jar the magnetism out of the metal. Do not clean your jewelry with jewelry cleaner. This can also corrode the magnets.

  3. Step 3

Clean tarnished copper magnets with a brass or metal cleaner.

  4. Step 4

Take off your jewelry before swimming in a chlorinated pool or in salt water. Chlorine and salt can corrode the metal the magnets are made of.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not use magnetic jewelry if you have a pacemaker. The magnets will disrupt the pacemaker's proper functioning.
