Remodeling your bathroom is an approachable do-it-yourself project. Rather than spending the labor costs of hiring a plumber, you can do much of the work yourself. Installing a Kohler toilet can easily be accomplished with a few supplies and the proper procedures.

  • Toilet wax gasket
  • Putty

    Installing a Kohler Toilet

  1. Step 1

Remove the stopper or rag that is stuffed into the PVC pipe sewer hole that is flush to the floor in your bathroom.

  2. Step 2

Apply PVC cement to the flange insert that will fit into the floor PVC pipe. Place the floor flange that comes with the Kohler toilet over the the PVC pipe and make sure the two upward-facing bolts are both inserted. Force the flange into the PVC pipe. (The flange is a circular piece that fits into the PVC sewer pipe, the flange has two upward bolts that will connect through the toilet base later.)

  3. Step 3

Place a new toilet wax gasket over the flange and force the bolts through the two holes in the wax.

  4. Step 4

Position the toilet over the wax and bolts so the bolts go through the two bolt holes on the base of the toilet. Screw the nuts that come with the toilet tightly onto the two bolts with the correct size wrench. Place the plastic nut toppers over the two nuts.

  5. Step 5

Insert the gasket that comes with the Kohler toilet into the bottom water exit hole in the base of the tank. Place the tank on the rear of the toilet. Connect it to the toilet bowl via the wing nuts under the back of the toilet. (There are two downward-facing bolts that are already part of the Kohler toilet tank that will insert through the rear of the toilet bowl.)

  6. Step 6

Place the gasket on the water line. Screw it clockwise into the rear of the tank and tighten it with a wrench. Screw the other end into the wall water supply the same way. Rotate the wall water supply knob counterclockwise to turn on the water supply.

  7. Step 7

Apply a bead of putty around the base of your toilet.
