Kayaking can be a fun exercise which also has the potential to expose you to beautiful water-side sights. While there are more advanced techniques, a good kayaking experience starts with an understanding of basic paddling technique. With proper technique, you can improve both the speed you can travel, as well as your endurance.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Grasp the paddle firmly in both hands, with your hands at shoulder width.

  2. Step 2

Extend your right arm forward while pulling your left arm back.

  3. Step 3

Dip your right shoulder so that the paddle enters the water.

  4. Step 4

Pull back with your right arm while pushing forward with your left.

  5. Step 5

As your left arm nears full extension, lower your left shoulder and raise your right, bringing the left paddle into the water.

  6. Step 6

Pull back with your left arm while pushing forward with your right until your right arm is near full extension.

  7. Step 7

    Repeat Steps 3 - 6.

Tips & Warnings
