Installing an oval shower curtain rod is completed in the same manner that you would hang a straight curtain rod. The only difference is the location of the rod. You will only need a few basic tools to install an oval rod.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1
    An oval shower curtain rod.

    An oval shower curtain rod.

Mark the height where you want the curtain rod on both sides of the wall. The rod needs to be high enough to prevent the curtain from dragging the floor.

  2. Step 2

Mark the depth of the shower curtain rod. It should be a minimum of 5 inches from the outside edge of the tub. An oval shower curtain must be placed further in on the wall so that the shower curtain will not hang too far away from the edge of the tub.

  3. Step 3

Open the hardware package that came with your shower rod. There are 4 anchors, 2 anchor plates, 4 screws and 2 flanges. Hold an anchor plate to the wall at the location that you marked for height and depth. Mark the 2 screw holes on the wall.

  4. Step 4

Use the anchor plate to mark the screw holes on the opposite wall. Measure to make sure that the marked holes on each side of the shower are the exact same height and depth.

  5. Step 5

Read the instructions to find the appropriate size drill bit. Drill four screw holes at your marks, slightly deeper than the length of the anchors. Insert the anchors into the holes.

  6. Step 6

Hold an anchor plate over the anchors and insert the screws. Tighten the screws with a drill and screwdriver. Install the second anchor plate on the opposite wall. Place the flanges on the anchor plates. Tighten the screws underneath the flanges. Insert the curtain rod into the flanges.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are installing a curtain rod on ceramic tile, you will need a concrete or ceramic tile drill bit and a hammer drill.
