Things You'll Need:
- Feverfew capsules
- Eucalyptus essential oil
- Tissues
- Heat proof container
- Dried peppermint leaves or essential oil
- Towel
- Dried ginger root
-
Step 1
Take 3 400-milligram capsules of feverfew per day to relieve a sinus headache, until symptoms are gone. According to a recent study published in the British Medical Journal, feverfew has the ability to reduce even pain associated with migraines. Although it has not been researched for treating a sinus headache particularly, this herb has been reported by users to be effective in this capacity.
-
Step 2
Inhale eucalyptus essential oil to relieve a sinus headache. This herb has been used for centuries for clearing congestion, and helping overcome the common cold. Place a few drops of the oil onto a tissue and inhale until your sinuses are clear, which should relieve pressure and the resulting sinus headache.
-
Step 3
Make a peppermint steam to relieve a sinus headache. Boil 8 cups of water on the stove, transfer to a heat-proof container, add approximately a ½ cup of dried peppermint leaves (or 10 to 20 drops of essential oil), and inhale the steam. Place a towel around your head, and over the container, to keep the steam from escaping and you'll have better results. Peppermint is used in traditional herbalism to treat congestion and sinus problems.
-
Step 4
Take one teaspoon of dried ginger root per day to relieve a sinus headache. Ginger root has been used for centuries to treat headaches of all kinds. It is an anti-inflammatory, and reduces pain and nausea. It is believed to help reduce the inflammation of the sinus cavities, thus reducing sinus pressure, and sinus headaches.
-
Step 5
Take 3 500-milligram capsules of cayenne pepper per day to relieve a sinus headache. This herb has been used traditionally to clear the sinus passages, as well as reduce the pain associated with headaches. Alternatively, eating cayenne pepper can also produce the same results, but be careful not to over-do it.
