How to Defrag a MacBook

Defragmenting a MacBook, also known as disk optimization, is a process that streamlines the locations of files and folders. This will help speed up your computer if it is running slow.

Things You'll Need:

  • iDefrag software
  1. Step 1

    Download and install iDefrag. See Resources to download a free trial version.

  2. Step 2

    Open iDefrag and choose a volume by clicking the volume icon located a the top left-hand corner of the application.

  3. Step 3

    Choose an algorithm from the drop down menu. For the quickest defrag procedure, click "Quick (online)."

  4. Step 4

    Click the "Go" button to defrag your computer. The time it takes to defrag will vary depending on which algorithm you have chosen.
