Things You'll Need:
- Phillips screwdriver
- Drive bay cover
-
Step 1
Turn off your computer and disconnect it from the power source.
-
Step 2
Remove the side panel or case from your computer. Depending on the make and model of your computer, the side panel may simply slide away from the metal case. On other models, you may have to remove four screws from the back of the machine and slide the entire cover off the metal frame. Some models have a pull tab that will allow you to remove the cover. If you are not sure how to remove the cover panel, consult your owner's manual.
-
Step 3
Locate the cables leading to the zip drive. The cables are attached to the back of the physical zip drive and are simple to unplug with a gentle tug. By noting the location of the zip drive on the front of the tower or desktop, locating the plug-ins for the zip drive is not difficult.
-
Step 4
Unplug the cables connecting the drive to the motherboard. This will include a power plug, a ribbon cable and sometimes a sound plug in.
-
Step 5
Use the screwdriver to remove the screws holding the zip drive to the frame of the computer. Slide the drive out and away from the frame and set aside.
-
Step 6
Replace the drive bay cover in the empty slot. This will prevent dust and grime from collecting inside the computer.
-
Step 1
Navigate to your Control Panel and click on System.
-
Step 2
Click on the Hardware tab and then click on the Device Manager button.
